Why convert EPUB to PDF
EPUB is the open standard for e-books — used by every major e-reader except Kindle. PDF is the format for printing, sharing finished documents, and reading on any device that does not have an EPUB reader installed.
Most people convert EPUB to PDF for one of three reasons: printing a book (PDF preserves exact pagination, EPUB reflows), reading on a device or app that does not handle EPUB, or archiving in the more universally readable PDF format.
EPUB is reflowable — it adjusts to the screen size of the reader. PDF is fixed-layout — it always looks the same. Both behaviors are useful in different contexts. Converting to PDF locks in a specific pagination and typography for the final form.
Important: this converter works with DRM-free EPUB files only. EPUBs purchased from major bookstores often have DRM that prevents conversion. Public-domain books from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, and similar archives are DRM-free.
Common use cases
- Print an EPUB book on paper with exact pagination and typography.
- Read an EPUB on a device that does not have an e-reader app (Windows desktop, some Android tablets).
- Archive an EPUB in the more universally readable PDF format.
- Send an EPUB to a recipient who only opens PDFs.
- Convert public-domain books from Project Gutenberg into print-ready PDFs.
Tips for best results
- We only convert DRM-free EPUB files. DRM'd books from Amazon, Apple Books, or Google Play Books cannot be converted without removing the DRM (which we do not do).
- Table of contents is preserved as PDF bookmarks where the EPUB has it.
- Embedded fonts in the EPUB are honored in the PDF. Missing fonts substitute to the closest match.
- Cover image, where present, becomes the first page of the PDF.
- Image-heavy EPUBs (graphic novels, photo books) produce larger PDFs than text-only books — sometimes much larger.
About EPUB
EPUB (Electronic Publication) is the open standard for e-books, maintained by the W3C. Built on top of XHTML, CSS, and ZIP, an EPUB file is a compressed bundle of HTML chapters, stylesheets, fonts, and images. EPUB is reflowable — the text adjusts to the screen size of the reader — which makes it ideal for e-readers like Kobo, Nook, Apple Books, and most third-party reading apps. Amazon's Kindle uses its own AZW3/KFX format but accepts EPUB via Send-to-Kindle.
About PDF
PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 to present documents identically across software, hardware, and operating systems. PDFs embed fonts and fix layout, which makes them ideal for printing and archiving. Unlike EPUB, PDF does not reflow — every reader sees the same pages in the same layout. For finalizing a book for print, sharing with non-e-reader users, or long-term archiving, PDF is the natural target.

Frequently asked questions
Will the chapters and table of contents be preserved?+
Yes. Chapters appear in order, and the EPUB's table of contents becomes PDF bookmarks where supported by your reader.
What about embedded images and fonts?+
Embedded images and fonts in the EPUB are carried over into the PDF. Missing fonts substitute to the closest available match.
Can I convert a DRM-protected EPUB?+
No. We do not strip DRM. Convert public-domain or DRM-free EPUBs only. Books purchased from Amazon, Apple, or Google Play often have DRM that blocks conversion.
Will the PDF reflow on my phone?+
No — PDF is fixed-layout. If you want reflowable reading on a small screen, keep the EPUB and use a reading app.
Is the EPUB to PDF converter free?+
Yes. 5 conversions per day as a guest, 10 per day signed in with Google. No card.
Is it safe to upload my EPUB?+
Yes. Files are uploaded over HTTPS and deleted from our servers within one hour. We never train models on your content.
What page size and margins will the PDF use?+
We default to a book-friendly trim size with sensible margins. Custom paper size controls are coming in Pro.
Does it work on Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android?+
Yes. The converter runs in any modern browser. The PDF works everywhere.
